About

The airfield in Gliwice has been built after the First World War. Regular communication from the airfield started in May 1925. In 1931, the Gliwice airfield has been visited by a "Zeppelinť. Due to this occasion, about 200 thousand people from neighbouring localities and abroad came to the airfield.

In the Fifties of the 20thcentury - already in the Polish People's Republic - Flying Club has been established in Gliwice, as a division of the PPR Flying Club. Operations of the Flying Club have been financed by the state and included maintenance of the objects and the airfield itself in satisfactory condition until the Nineties of the 20thcentury. After the fall of the communism in Poland, flow of the financial resources has stopped, and the Gliwice Flying Club was forced to find its own funds. Within 2005 - 2015, as a result of the flying club operations, the airfield objects and infrastructure begun to fall into ruin.

"Gliwicki Program Rewitalizacji do roku 2023ť [Gliwice Revitalisation Program to 2023], passed by the City Council of Gliwice in 2017, was the last chance to keep the historical objects (P.K. No. 30). The project included in the Gliwice Revitalisation Program to 2023was to provide the grounds for the Gliwice Fluing Club to become a beneficiary of the funds provided within the scope of the contest concerning implementation of the project within the scope of the Regional Operational Program for the Silesian Province within 2014 - 2020 (European Fund for Regional Development).

Gliwickie Centrum Edukacji Lotniczej "GCELť [Aviation Education Centre in Gliwice] is a multi-thread and multi-faceted project for all groups of the society, children and youth, adults and seniors, which combines history with present times, today with tomorrow, tradition and historical facts with actually implemented profiles of the society operations. The project is based on the objects of the Gliwice Flying Club association, which implements statute operations, with prevalence of educational, training and coaching activities.

Such theme will also be an incentive for new candidates of the Gliwice Flying Club members so that it could become a firm organization, cooperating with such institutions as schools, universities, associations, foundations, museums and first and foremost with city authorities.

The project will contribute to levelling the diagnosed social problems and inhibiting prioritization processes within the Gliwice Airfield. The investment should enable stimulation of the district cultural life and improve life standard of Trynek residential estate inhabitants and the attractiveness of the district and Gliwice city.

The project is also related to: Improvement of quality and access to culture, sport and recreational offer, offering the option for development of inhabitants and attractive spending of leisure time.
